Peace

Happy International Day of Peace! A day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and people. I am completely behind this day, however it has got me thinking about why we actually need a actual day devoted to peace (it's 2016 world come on!), We do need this as it brings PEACE to the front of our minds. Peace is important, it is vital for us to continue moving forward and yet we as humans don’t seem to realise this (all the time).

The UN Sustainable Development Goals are a way for us to move forward and provide the building blocks of peace (the theme set down by the UN this year). Some of you may look at the goals and be like, they are so vague how does it relate to me?  When you drive in deeper and look closely there is a way that we can each and all contribute towards the greater good. If you want to that is (and you should, not that I'm telling what you should and shouldn't do :P).

"Let us all work together to help all human beings achieve dignity and equality; to build a greener planet; and to make sure no one is left behind." — UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon

So let's take a look on the micro level now, at ourselves what can you can actually do individually. You can spread awareness and let people know about this day, the goals and how important peace is. Definitely do it! 100% this is great and then after a few days or weeks we will kind of forget about this (as social media trends go).

On top of this and something even MORE is to actually take a moment to look at what peace means for you, what does it mean to be peaceful, what does it mean to be human?  Yes, you can go ahead and drive change to end wars and help people understand each other,  but I want you to have a look at your life, your day to day happenings.

Are you being ethical in your every day actions? How do you interact with people? Do you argue just for the sake of arguing, or is it constructive to help move things forward? Are you peaceful in your discussions? Do you make people angry, mad in what you do? Do you think about how your actions affect others? Do you care?

These are just some questions of many you can ask yourself and continue (or begin) to feel and spread the essence of peace not just by posts on social media but also by embodying it in all that we do.  Give it a go and let me know how it works out for you.

So here is to you, here is to us, here is to the world on this day of peace. May all that we do bring about a sense of peace and love in this world. For together we are one world moving forward in this time and space.
